Tactical Anatomy Systems resources are provided in a variety of forms to suit your agency’s needs and means. Although we sell Tactical Anatomy target t-shirts and Instructor Resource Kits, we strongly recommend that you have us train your firearms instructors in the use of the system first.

Training Seminars

The Tactical Anatomy Systems seminar is the heart and soul of what we do. Personally conducted by Dr. James Williams and designed for a class of 8 to 20 students, the training seminar will teach your firearms instructor team how to bridge the gap between 2-dimensional targets and the 3-dimensional human body.

The seminar is ideally conducted in 3 parts. First, Dr. Williams uses radiographs, anatomic drawings, and other anatomy references to explain the relevant anatomy of the 3 Zones of Incapacitation.  Using a student as a living model in a plain white t-shirt, the relevant target anatomy is then drawn on the model with reference to the anatomic references. Trainees then demonstrate their grasp of the 3-D model by using Crimson Trace™ laser sights to identify shot placement.

The second component of training involves the use of a computerized training system such as FATS, Range 3000, or equivalent. Trainees are presented with multiple scenarios in which a shoot/no-shoot decision must be made, then if the trainee shoots the screen, his/her hits are assessed by the instructor and peers in terms of what anatomic structures have likely been interdicted, and whether such hits would be incapacitating. This component is to the police marksman what 'batting practice' is to the baseball player: all non-pertinent components of police training are set aside so the trainee can concentrate on the specific skills of 3-dimensional visualization and shooting for incapacitation.

The third segment of the seminar takes us back into the classroom. Trainees put on plain white t-shirts, then under Dr. Williams' supervision and while referencing the anatomy resources provided, they draw the 3-D anatomy concept on their partners' t-shirts. This exercise is both a learning exercise and the final exam for the course

All of the above can be accomplished with a class of up to 20 trainees in one 8-hour day of training. Agencies or individuals interested in advanced training have the option of taking a two-day class. The first day's training proceeds as above, then on the second day we take to the Reality Based Training range and conduct force-on-force exercises. We use highly scripted scenarios to reinforce the lessons learned in the classroom and on the computer simulator, but by adding in the dynamics of RBT, learning is accelerated and highly retainable. This component of training dials up the difficulty level another notch, pushing trainees to learn how to make anatomically effective shots with speed and under dynamic pressure.

Trainees who have completed the Tactical Anatomy Systems training seminar will receive a certificate of completion and are thereafter eligible to order Tactical Anatomy Systems products directly.

Tactical Anatomy Instructor Manual

This Manual is intended to give any law enforcement or military firearms instructor the material he needs to teach three-dimensional target visualization to his personnel. Designed to be a 'turn-key' package, the manual consists of a 127-page full-color printed textbook and a CD-ROM with three dynamic PowerPoint slide presentations. The Manual is broken down into 5 lesson plans, with supplementary and background material to aid the instructor in presenting the lessons to his classes.

While the original Tactical Anatomy training system was designed to be an 8-hour class that would take trainees from ground zero to full 3D visualization--and this can still be done--the Manual provides options that allow the instructor to go with a half-day (4-hr) introductory course, a full-day (8-hr) basic course, or a two day (16-hr) advanced course.

Lesson 1, 'Rationale' is the guide to the 62-slide PowerPoint presentation supplied on the CD-ROM. This lesson explains why traditional 'square-range' training is failing to prepare patrol officers/military personnel for real-world firearms combat, and how 3D target visualization is a vital aid to overcoming this deficiency.

Lesson 2, 'Building an Anatomic Model' is a step-by-step guide--complete with 53 full-color illustrations--to guide the instructor in building a three-dimensional anatomy model in the classroom in less than an hour. Supported by two corresponding PowerPoint presentations on the CD-ROM for the instructor to use as his teaching resources, this lesson gives the instructor all the information he needs to bring 3D anatomy to life in the classroom.

Lesson 3, 'Laser Sight Exercise' is the first step in translating 2D visualization to 3D visualization in the trainees' mind's eye. Using a laser sighting system on a replica firearm, the instructor will introduce his personnel to the practical aspects of 3D sighting for the first time.

Lesson 4, 'Force on Force Exercises' is actually two lessons in one. Depending on the resources the instructor has at his disposal, the lessons take the instruction through training exercises in computer-generated simulations (eg, FATS, Range3000, etc) and in reality based training (RBT) exercises using non-lethal training ammunition (NLTA) such as SIMUNITION. The two components of Lesson 4 may be stacked, or taught separately as stand-alone modules. Depending on class size and resources available, this lesson explains how to branch out into a two-day class if time and resources permit.

Lesson 5, 'After Action Review' is a guide to consolidating your trainees' learning at the end of the day.

The manual is priced at $59.95 plus $5.00 S&H. International orders please add $10.00.  Click here to order.
