Jim,
Aren't SWAT team-members, taken from the patrol force, trained to the level of "First Responder" as part of their Standards in Training certification?

My obvious question is, if one of the entry team members is wounded during the initial engagement, does the team stay or go, render aid to their commrade, or continue with the mission? Or does one member drop out to aid the injured officer?

It would seem logical that each member should be able to treat an expected injury; the GSW, or a stabbing or slashing wound.

This probably would be to the level of an EMT's Basic Life Support (BLS) training, specifically geared to airway management, and controlling blood loss. Once those are accomplished, the mission should be completed by the other officers, and EMS can do their job.

If they are so trained, then shouldn't this transfer over to the treatment of injured/wounded citizens at the scene as well? - west151precinct
